Weaving with Linen; is a class for the moderate to advanced weaver. We will have available fine linen fiber as well as more course linen fibers to work with. Linen has traditionally been used for house wares, curtains and table linens. Linen fiber tends to be stiff and unruly when worked with but generates lovely fabric with a smooth and glossy texture. Linen can be woven into delicate transparent fabrics that are perfect for weft inlay. This class is scheduled to last three days but can be reduced to two days if necessary. All materials provided, $225.00 for 3 days, $175.00 for 2 days.
Double Binding technique is a 4 shaft rug weaving technique championed by Scandinavian weavers. It is possible to design and weave two sided rugs. We will be using “upcycled” Tshirts for weft with sturdy cotton rug fiber for the warp. A 24″ x 48″ rug uses about 8 large Tshirts. You will be shown how to process the Tshirts but can use the stock of processed shirts I have accumulated. The cotton warps will be wound on and ready to be threaded to your desired block design. The class is scheduled for two days but can be taken for one day. Cost includes materials, $100.00 for one day, $175.00 for two days. The class is not currently scheduled but can be set up for those interested in the process.
Beginning Weaving; November 7 – 9, December 5 – 7.
A weaving essentials class open to all weavers but is geared for people newer to weaving. Participants will learn how to draw out a design, set-up a loom, weave, and finish a project. We will focus on the design potential of color and texture, while making a sound piece of cloth. Participants will develop a better understanding of what makes a good piece of cloth based on the desired function of the piece (scarf, table runner, or decorative wall piece). The class runs for three consecutive days, for $225. Price includes instruction, use of studio equipment, yarns, and materials. Participants are welcome to bring their own yarn and looms if desired.
